Admissions Requirements
Students who enroll in Providence High School must be 18 years of age, unless they are enrolled by a parent or guardian. Because of IDEA restrictions, Providence High School cannot provide specialized services for special needs students.
Students who apply for admission to Providence High School must possess the basic skills needed to complete high school level work. This may be determined, where applicable, by a review of transcripts from previous schools. Admission to Providence High School is determined by transcript information the student provides when intending to transfer credits. Once a transfer student has filled out an enrollment form and paid a one time, non-refundable, enrollment fee of $25, the student will be prompted to download a Transcript Request form. The form must be completed and mailed to the previous school(s). 9th grade students must submit transcripts from middle schools or junior high schools attended. Those students desiring to take a refresher course or credit recovery course will follow the same procedures as 9th graders, except they do not have to submit transcripts.
Transfer of credits from previous high school(s).
Providence High School will transfer credits from previous high schools for similar course work with grades of D or above or the equivalent percent grades. Providence High School cannot guarantee that every previous credit earned will transfer, but we will work with the individual student to reach a decision that is acceptable to all involved. No matter how many credits may be transferable to PHS, a student is required to complete a minimum of 4 credits in order to receive a PHS diploma.
Home school transfer credits
Home school students should contact our registrar’s office so that appropriate documentation of previous high school credits may be obtained. PHS reserves the right to refuse the admission of any student who cannot provide appropriate verification of previous schooling.
Completing Courses
PHS allows students to work on courses at their own pace. Students can take up to one year to complete a course. However, students may sometimes complete a year of high school in 6 months or less, depending upon the time they are able to spend on school work.
Online Testing: When students complete a unit they can logon at the Student Login portion of our web site. There they select the course they are taking and the test they want to take. They will enter answers for their test and click on the SUBMIT button. Students receive immediate feedback, which not only gives them the grade for that unit, but also the cumulative grade for the course. At the completion of a course, students may print out a a Certificate of Completion by selecting “print certificate”. This is their verification that they have successfully completed that course.
Graduation: When students have fulfilled all the requirements for graduation, Providence High School will notify them by letter and/or e-mail. They will be mailed a Providence High School diploma along with an official transcript, bearing our school seal. A student may request additional copies of a transcript, personally, by submitting a request in writing along with a $3.00 fee to cover processing and postage. Allow 10 business days after we receive the request for receipt of the transcript. NOTE: Most colleges and universities require a sealed official transcript; so those requests should come directly from the colleges.
The Providence High School curriculum is designed to provide a thorough education leading to a high school diploma. All of our courses are designed for independent study at home. We use nationally recognized textbooks that have been carefully selected by our staff of certified teachers. These texts are recognized throughout the educational community as quality high school resources.
When enrolled, a student should be able to resume their education immediatelly where they left off. Select one of two study tracks: the General Diploma Program, or the College Prep Diploma Program. Students have 90 days from the day of enrollment to send us their previous high school transcript for evaluation of credits. See our Diploma Programs page for details of our education tracts and our Course Descriptions page to see detailed information about each course we offer. PHS will continually add to our course selections in order to provide students with a variety of coursework that will appeal to varied student interests.
